Trade Your Old Books On ‘Cool Talk’!
|
Don’t just toss out your old storybooks. Now, you can give these treasures a new lease on life by trading them with other bookworms at SingaporeLearning.com’s CoolTalk section.
Within ‘Cool Talk’, you also have access to a host of communication tools that enable you to express your opinions about current topics of interest through blogs, share and exchange ideas through forums and expand your network of friends and contacts.
|
 |
While its fun to make new friends through blogging and from chat rooms, you should still follow some personal safety rules:
- Try not to have a face-to-face meeting with the strangers that you’ve made contact with online.
- If you really have to meet up with a stranger, e.g. to trade your storybooks, then go with your parent or friend. Please let an adult know where and when you’re meeting this person.
- While chatting, NEVER post important personal information about yourself, e.g. your bank account number, NRIC number, parent’s credit card number, etc.

Be First Aid Savvy
Would you know what to do if a disaster strikes or an accident happens? First, it is important to determine if the situation is an emergency or a non-emergency. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) operates a 24-hour Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) ready to respond to a medical emergency anywhere in Singapore. If the situation is non-emergency in nature (e.g. minor cuts and bruises, chronic aches, pains and mild fever), then sought medical advice from your family doctor or hospital, using your own transport or the public transport system. Alternatively, you may dial 1777 or any other non-emergency private ambulance service.
If you are able to administer first aid to an injured person before medical help is available, you will certainly help to alleviate the person’s pain and suffering. The SCDF’s website offers comprehensive instructions on how you can respond to some emergency and non-emergency situations. Click on each link to learn more :
