Blogging


A blog is a shortened form of the terms weblog or web log which items are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. Blogs usually use a conversational style of documentation and they often focus on a particular area of interest. Some blogs are for discussion of personal experience.

There are a few terms related to blog:

  • Blogging – maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog
  • Blog posts, posts, enteries – individual articles
  • Blogger – a person who posts the entries
There are a few general guidelines in signing up for a blog and they are listed as below:

(1) Check out for a few of the free blog sites such as Blogger (http://www.blogger.com) where several features are offered

(2) Decide on a blog site and whether you want your blog to be private (known only to you) or public (known to the mass)
(3) Sign up with a unique user name, a password and a valid email
(4) Validate your email after registration
(5) You can start blogging

In fact, to sign up for a blog is no more of a hassle as most blog sites offer steps to guide you through.

There are some tips to share when you are using a blog to present your thoughts and feelings.

DOs:

  • Do use proper language to convey your thoughts and feelings to the readers so that the universe will be able to understand the common language
  • Do update regularly
  • Do inform readers that you are not unable to update your blog for a while so they do not waste time on checking it while you are away
  • Do give proper credit where you have taken the sources by provide links
  • Do only claim something as a fact if you know it to be true or can prove it to be true
  • Do warn readers if the content or content of a link may be something that they will not approve of or will not want to see

DON’Ts

  • Don’t disclose any personal information about yourself such as contact number and address
  • Don’t post any material that is obscene, threathening, harassing, abusive, hateful or embarrassing to another person
  • Don’t post any material that is copyrighted unless you are the owner or written permission from the owner
  • Don’t launch personal attacks on someone
