The materials in this package are based on the thematic approach (except for the last lesson). In Lessons 1 to 3, the theme is centred around Gopal, Chin Seng and the Snake, an adventure of two boys. In Lessons 4 to 7, the theme is on Travel. These are topics that pupils, educators and parents will be familiar with. The final lesson (Lesson 8) comprises exercises based on miscellaneous topics. These should make pupils aware of the diversity of life.
The skills to be tested are integrated around the chosen themes. The skills are editing, comprehension (open-ended, MCQ questions and graphic stimulus), completion of cloze passages, grammar / vocabulary exercises and synthesis / transformation of sentences. These skills, and the exercises and texts associated with them, are consonant with the requirements of the English syllabus for Upper Primary pupils by the Ministry of Education.
